Top 5 Ways CBD Could Benefit The Brain

Can Cannabidiol Oil From The Sativa L. Plant Regenerate Brain Cells?

What Is Neurogenesis And Or Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor?

Picture

#1 EARLY RESEARCH REVEALS CBD COULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR INCREASING NEUROGENESIS (cell regrowth) IN THE BRAIN OF MAMMALS

The big question is, can full spectrum hemp (cannabidiol) oil derived from the sativa l. cannabis hemp plant contribute to the regeneration of brain cells? According to this recent research study, new evidence is coming out to refute the original biased claim that brain cells can never rejuvinate themselves, even if the body receives specific targeted nutrition, exercise, proper rest, positive circumstances and sunlight. The bodies and brains of mammals have an amazing resilience to replenish themselves, this includes the regeneration of brain cells, contrary to popular belief. According to new evidence, says THE GUARDIAN conducted at Autonomous University in Madrid, Spain, brain cells take part in neurogenesis at a variety of ages, showing a sharp decline in neurogenisis in the brain cells of the elderly upwards from 90 years old, as well as in Alzheimer patients. These findings arose from a study done on previously neurologically healthy brain specimens on 13 donated brain models from deceased volunteers ranging in age from 43-87.

And to back these findings up, look at this quote, according to The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) in the article, Adult Neurogenesis in the Mammalian Brain: Significant Answers and Significant Questions:

"Neurogenesis, defined here as a process of generating functional neurons from precursors, was traditionally viewed to occur only during embryonic and perinatal stages in mammals (Ming and Song, 2005). Altman’s pioneered studies decades ago provided the first anatomical evidence for the presence of newly generated dentate granule cells in the postnatal rat hippocampus (Altman and Das, 1965)."

This study on a rat's brain above is saying that neurogenesis is no longer considered to be only confined to the early stages of a mammal's development, as was previously taught, and neurogenesis can happen at a variety of ages depending on different conditions in the brain.

It's exciting to realize that experiments with cannabis are showing promise and CBD could play a future role in the rejuvenation of the brain through neurogenesis by boosting levels of the protein called BDNF or Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor.

#2 EARLY STUDIES REVEAL THAT CBD "CANNABIDIOL" CAN POSSIBLY PLAY A
SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN PROTECTING THE BRAIN FROM NEURAL DAMAGE

One of the most significant majority agreed upon medical studies comes from one conducted on 42 schizophrenic patients. And, as the title of the abstract study infers, the perception in and of itself suggests that, "Cannabidiol Enhances Anandamide Signaling and Alleviates Psychotic Symptoms of Schizophrenia." This process is also known as anandamide and adenosine reuptake neurotransmitter inhibition. In clinical studies observing this process, the administration of "cannabidiol oil" produced a protection affect on anandamide and adenosine levels in schizophrenic patients.

One of the most astonishing studies with cannabidiol with rats resulted in inhibited FAAH in rat brain membranes, further resulting in their sustained anandamide levels. These rodent experiments suggest that CBD "cannabidiol" may protect anandamide from deactivating because it interferes with FAAH activity (the enzyme that degrades anandamide) therefore sustaining the anandamide levels. And to sum up this process, a quote from this medical abstract sheds new light on the significance of raised anandamide levels and how it could play a role in the neuroprotective signaling in the brain.

Here's a quote referring to the above study referring to the 42 schizophrenic patients studied, "We found a statistically significant association between increase in anandamide levels and decrease in psychotic symptoms in patients treated with cannabidiol."

#3 "CANNABIDIOL" MELTS AWAY STRESS

Stress is now being linked to a deficiency of endocannabinoids, the chemicals made by the body for uptake by the Endocannabinoid System or ECS. The ECS distributes the endocannabinoids all over its intricate structure within the peripheral nervous system, the central nervous system, especially the brain, spine, the organs, the digestive tracts, the nerves and surrounding tissues through its receptor sites. And in so doing, the ECS contributes to the regulation of each bodily system. The Endocannabinoid System, in early findings, is thought to be responsible for the body's overall well-being, the regulation of mood, appetite, pain-sensation and memory.

But, it is being discovered in controlled studies and pondered upon that CBD "cannabidiol" along with other cannabinoids and 2-AG (the endocannabinoid arachidonoylglycerol manufactured by the mammal body) combine to participate in those processes. High anandamide levels resulting from CBD intake could have an anti-stress causal effect because anandamide could also be responsible for a described feelings of "bliss without the high" seen and heard reference to in anecdotal testimonials by CBD users from all over the world.

#4 HAPPINESS COULD BE  A FEW DROPS OF HEMP OIL AWAY

There is a lot to be said about the chemical seratonin due to its direct impact on elevated mood, well being, cognitive learning and overall happiness. 90% of all of a body's seratonin is made and resides in the gut, the rest is in the central nervous system. A happy gut can be a direct result of elevated seratonin levels. I'm sure Hippocrates was right when he said, “All Disease Begins in The Gut.” Research is beginning to show, "All Happiness Begins in the Gut" too.

Animal research now links CBD "cannabidiol" as a contributor to the rise of serotonin levels in the brain. Science is still studying the impact of CBD "cannabidiol" on depression. However, the following quote from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serotonin lends a promise towards a more optimistic future for CBD as a possible antidepressant drug, see the quote here:

"In conclusion, our findings indicate that CBD could represent a novel fast antidepressant drug, via enhancing both serotonergic and glutamate cortical signalling through a 5-HT1A receptor-dependent mechanism."

Since CBD "cannabidiol" has no hardcore psychoactive or known adverse side-effects other than perhaps a feeling of drowsiness at bedtime, this makes CBD an ideal candidate for more advanced research into CBD related mood enhancement drugs. These are exciting times in cannabis research. We should be learning more about the sacred plant in the area of mental and spiritual well-being in years to come.

#5 CBD COULD RELIEVE NEUROINFLAMMATION OF THE BRAIN

According to Progress Neuropsychopharmacology & Biological Psychiatry. 2017, in the abstract titled, Cannabidiol Reduces Neuroinflammation and Promotes Neuroplasticity and Functional Recovery after Brain Ischemia, the study excerpt below states:
"In addition, ischemic mice treated with CBD exhibited an increase in the hippocampal Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) protein levels. CBD also stimulated neurogenesis and promoted dendritic restructuring in the hippocampus of BCCAO (bilateral common carotid artery occlusion) animals. Collectively, the present results demonstrate that short-term CBD treatment results in global functional recovery in ischemic mice and impacts multiple and distinct targets involved in the pathophysiology of brain ischemic injury."

Although this study above was done on traumatized mice with BCCAO (bilateral common carotid artery occlusion) it is clear that CBD triggered a stimulated neurogenesis (regeneration of neural cells) with an increase in BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) protein levels giving researchers new hope in the area of brain inflammatory injury. Lower
levels of BDNF are associated with neurodegenerative diseases with neuronal loss, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis and Huntington's disease.

Another study showed that CBD can even help quell neuroinflammation even after a stroke. Neuroinflammation can cause brain damage that can lead to the killing off of brain cells. If the brain's neurons are inflammed, the brain has difficulty functioning with basic tasks and advanced brain aging could result.

"It has been reported that cannabinoids suppress the production of a variety of pro-inflammatory cytokines in both human cell cultures and animal models, an effect that has been thought to be mediated mainly by CB2 receptors." Retrieved from,
Cannabinoid Modulation of Neuroinflammatory Disorders, from Current Neuropharmacology. 2012 Jun.

This means, it is believed that the cannabinoids present in CBD "cannabidiol" can mitigate the reduction in inflammation by blocking the production of cytokines. There are so many chemical reactions taking place in the human body after taking CBD "cannabidiol" and the mysteries keep on unraveling. Stay tuned.
